John Francis pelot settled in Marion County circa 18611. John Francis Pelot served in the Civil War as a private in Captain Josh McGahagin's Company First Florida Reserves2 and also in Captain E.D. Howse's Company, Home Guards3. John Francis Pelot migrated from South Carolina to central Florida, probably after the Civil War. The town was named Belleview, after his daughter Agnes Isabelle (Belle) Pelot4, whom he left on the plantation site in Hardeeville, South Carolina. He died on 11 June 18845, 6. He is buried in a Evergreen Cemetery in Ocala.

1. James Edgar was b. 5 January 18818 in Florida. He m. Margaret Whisnant. She was b. in 1896. She served as the Post-Master of Belleview Post Office. He d. in 1952, She died in 1965. Children:

a. Joseph Harrell Pelot, Sr., b. 22 November 1925 in Belleview, Florida, m. Peggy Ruth Watson. She was born on ?? 1920 in Wildwood, Florida. Her parents were George Clyde Watson and Ruth Anna from Wildwood, Florida. Children:

(1) Patricia Ruth, b. 1948, at Ocala, Florida. She m. (1) Richard Lenze and (2) Carl White. Child through first husband:

(a) Stephen Lenze, b. Tavares, Florida.

(2) Joseph Harrell Pelot, Jr., b.12 August 1950 at the Monroe Memorial Hospital in Ocala, Florida. He was nicknamed Jody after the little boy in the movie "The Yearling". The movie was filmed in Cross Creek, Florida in the early 1940s. John Francis and his brothers helped handle the animals for the movie. He m. (1) Nancy Deloren Driggers on 12 August 1972 in Oxford, Florida. They divorced on 3 June 1974. He m. (2) Maria Antoliana Ledezma from Paraguay. Her parents were Pedro Ledezma and Edelmira Rivas. She was born on 10 May 1939. They divorced on 10 October 1993. He is retired from the United States Navy as a Chief Hospital Corpsman and currently works at the Naval School of Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. Children:

(a) Anna Maria, 26 October 1978 at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

(b) Joseph Franklin, 4 March 1980 at the Monroe Memorial Hospital in Ocala, Florida.

c. Paul Eugene Pelot, known by family as "Gene", b. 1922 at home in Belleview, Florida. He was single, 20 years old at time of his death. He was an Army Air Corps aviator and did not survive the war, he was killed in 1944 when lightening struck his B-17 that he was flying from Mexico to Drew Field in Tampa, Florida. All eleven crew members died. He is buried in Belleview Cemetery.
